Michael Kivundu
Welcome to my page
In August 2007 Claus from Pens for Kids Denmark tried to look up an old friend - Eunice - a fisherman from Mombassa whom he had met on previous occasions. Eunice wasn't at work when Claus got there, but instead he met with me - Michael Kivundu.
Claus already knew me since we have met on two previous occasions, so he suggested to make me a Pens for Kids Ambassador instead of Eunice - which I happily accepted.

Myself
I am 43 years old and one of the established curio traders on the beach at Bamburi Beach Hotel in Mombassa. My main products are high quality wood carvings, necklaces and paintings.
My family and I live in Kitui near Machakos - which is quite far away from Mombasa where I work, so I can't come home every night.
Our home in Kitui.
My family
I have a very beautiful wife...
My wife - harvesting vegetables.
...and 6 kids in all - 2 sons and 4 daughters.
Our oldest daughter wasn't home when this picture was taken:
Our kids are very nice and well behaved - but even so - our house is very small...
...and part of it has no roof at the moment.
Life has been very hard here in Kenya since the election. The subsequent violence has been a catastrophic setback for Kenya's tourist industry, and for the country as a whole.
The tourists are slowly starting to come back now, and I hope my co-operation with Pens for Kids will help me get in contact with them and boost my business. After such a long time virtually without any source of income, we certainly need all the help we can get to put our kids through school.
